The mountain environment where Antequera is located gives us the opportunity to visit another wonder of nature, the Gaitanes Gorge, a closed gorge with hundreds of feet deep where long ago was built the Caminito del Rey, favorite place for climbing enthusiasts.
The Laguna de Fuente de Piedra, the largest salt lake in southern Europe, It's the home of one of the largest colonies of flamingos in the Mediterranean, being the preferred place for nesting.
Leisure and Events
Among all the exciting festivities Easter excels due to its age and the beauty of religious sculptures that are a few days removed from their temples to be admired and followed in procession by thousands of penitents.
The Spring Festival, which fills our fields of color is especially celebrated then giving way to the May Livestock Fair.
In August, Antequera celebrated its Real Fair, where leisure and tradition live intensely, celebrating good bullfights and where the party does not stop until dawn.
Equally important to the city is the celebration of the patron saint of Antequera, every year on September 8, the day of St. Euphemia and the Virgin of the Remedies.
